The Magic of Local Lore is an exhibition of stories gathered by the 2023/2024 5th & 6th class students of Presentation Convent National School, Castlecomer. With guidance from storyteller, Helena Byrne, students developed a deep understanding of the art and craft of oral storytelling, and the valuable role it can play in their lives.
Each student was tasked with seeking out a story from within their own family or locality, and with Helena’s assistance, developed their writing ability, performance and public speaking skills.
From stories on their doorstep in Castlecomer to those much further afield. Fond family memories to things that go bump in the night, this exhibition represents the rich history and cultural diversity within the Castlecomer Community.
Upon completion of the project, students proudly performed their stories at Castlecomer Library to an audience of proud family and friends.
